Abstract Landscapes

Photographing the painted surface
Calming paintings give rise to meditative states on prolonged viewing. Composition and color join. Here is where you can buy original abstract art prints and abstract landscape posters to decorate the walls of your home or office. These are not cheap art posters printed on thin paper but original contemporary digital prints made with archival pigment inks on heavy art paper. You can trace the contour of a brushstroke or get lost in the details inherent in texture. Custom image processing software is used to maintain maximum detail throughout the reproduction process.

Below I present a selection of my best paintings. Click any of the thumbnails to go to that painting's page on Imagekind, where you can see it enlarged and preview how it would look matted or unmatted and in different frames.

I begin working without forethought or planning, letting the image evolve of its own accord. At times the beginnings of a subject will assert itself. In these cases the painting usually is tending toward an abstract landscape or seascape, or some other abstraction of naturalism with self same forms and processes.

Turner whose works anticipated Abstract Expressionism of the 20th century. Now in the 21st century, there is a renewal of interest in Abstract Expressionism among contemporary art collectors.

Cave paintings were made with pigments made from charcoal (burned wood), dirt and crushed rocks. These are the same natural sources of pigment we use today. The pigments were mixed with binders made from animal fat, vegetable juices, or water. This prehistoric paint was applied with sticks, feathers, fingers, or was blown through hollow reeds onto the cave wall. Some of these elements and techniques continue to be used by contemporary artists.

Although they are a relatively modern invention, it is possible to use acrylic paints in a technique similar to watercolor. Acrylic paints can be diluted with water and the thinned paint applied in transparent washes that retain the image of brushstrokes even under overpainting. With acrylics, it is possible to go from thickly rendered paint to thin veils of color in the same painting, even in the same brushstroke.

My Imagekind gallery is open for buying Abstract Impressionist Art, Acrylic on paper, and modern art original giclee prints (by me, not by a famous artist such as Abstract Expressionist Mark Rothko or Russian Modern Artist Wasily Kandinsky who is often credited with being the inventor of abstract art.)
